A Very Mediterranean Guitar Festival
Let's get you up to speed. The Mediterranean Guitar Festival isn’t just limited to Sitges or to the summer. It's an event that runs from April to October and that, as its name implies, is distributed among different towns around the Catalan Mediterranean, including Comarruga, Calafell, Salou, Tarragona, Lloret de Mar, Castelló d'Empúries, Llançà, El Port de la Selva, L’Estartit, Calella and Sitges.
In the case of Sitges, during the concert series, the activity is mainly centered at the Ermita de Sant Sebastià, which hosts performances every Friday. The program is complemented by other venues, such as the Teatre Prado, where orchestral concerts are held. And we can assure you that it is a unique spectacle.
Tono Blasi, artistic director of the Mediterranean Guitar Festival, gives us clues as to why this festival is so extraordinary when he lavishes praises on the Sant Sebastià Church: "I mean, it truly is a gem, a wonderful place, with incredible acoustics, a beautiful interior... and right beside the sea". Added to this context is another differentiating and magical element: these are all small-format concerts, for just over a hundred people. This fact is very exceptional, "because imagine how this intimacy with the musicians becomes so unique and very special: we see their hands and the expression on their face, we hear their breathing...this is something that doesn't happen in 99.9% of the concerts that are held".

The guitar, of course, is the star of these concerts, whether in solos, duets or trios, sometimes teaming up with other instruments. Guitars that can be classical, Spanish, flamenco or baroque. And the magical fingers of more than 33 guitarists that make up the Sitges Festival's lineup and program this year.
We assume that you’re already convinced and now you simply need some practical information, am I right? Well, here we go: tickets can be purchased via the festival website as well as at the church itself one hour before the concert, which always begins at 9:00 pm. But careful: tickets are not numbered, so seats are available on a first come, first serve basis.
And may this post serve as a reminder that music and Sitges always dance together and the union results in a festival, no matter what the style: Festival Jazz Antic Sitges, Festival Jardins Terramar or the Concerts de Mitjanit at the Port de Sitges - Aiguadolç. You can also enjoy the best local gastronomy or start the night with a view. Rhythm, rhythm, and more rhythm...we simply looooove it ;)
